#352 // THE LAST PRESIDENT
In November of 1896, Ingersoll Lockwood publishes an allegorical political thriller set in then - contemporary America, yet it employs idioms, inventions and events which would not be authored, invented or take place for the next hundred to one hundred-thirty years.
Near the end of Ingersoll's book titled 1900: or, The Last President, another politically convenient terrorist attack strikes the nation's capitol - this one reminiscent of infamous Guy Fawkes' Gunpowder Plot of 1605. Importantly, those who funded and helped support Guy Fawkes were Jesuits, and fingers point back to the House of Orange - as we've covered in Origins and Oranges and House of Orange in our first series Merchants of Menace.
Socialism, at the time of Lockwood's writing, was a relatively newcomer - having spread from Germany in 1876 - and promised equality to the 'working man'. However, it instead killed him by the trainload. Here, is where the work becomes truly prophetic...
“As the dawn broke cold and gray, and its first dim light fell upon that shattered dome glorious even in its ruins, a single human eye (All-Seeing Illuminati Eye) filled a gleam of devilish joy, looked up at it long and steadily, and then its owner was caught up and lost in the surging mass of humanity that held the Capitol girt round and round."
Lockwood reveals this is an evil plan, by evil men hiding under the sheep-skin of Patriotism. And here is where things go absolutely haywire - as we're about to see!
